Free Online Poker – the Best Choice for Novices

There are many types of poker that can be played. Even though Texas Hold’Em is one of the most recent types of poker, it enjoys the highest popularity of all poker games. Perhaps the reason for this is because the rules are quite simple and you can learn the basics in a few games. Texas Hold’Em is a type of flop game that combines elements of both stud and draw poker, but even though it is the easiest to learn it is also the most challenging. The goal of the player is, as in most games, to win the whole amount of bets that players placed in the course of the hand, also known as the pot. The winner is the player who has lasted until the final round and continues to win the last pot, all the money bet in the course of the whole game.

The combinations of cards in poker vary. The lowest combination is a high card, which means that the highest card you have is higher than your opponent’s. A pair is when you have two cards of the same rank, for instance if you have two aces then you have a pair of aces. Two pair is when you form two combinations of a pair but of different ranks, like a pair of eights and a pair of jacks. Three of a kind is when you form a combination of three cards of the same rank, like three queens. Straight is when you have all five cards of different suits but in a consecutive sequence, but keep in mind that an ace can be used as 1, in a sequence of A, 2, 3, 4, 5, or as the highest card when you have 10, J, Q, K and A, the latter being the highest straight available. The flush is when you have all five cards of the same suit, like five diamonds or five hearts. Full house is when you have three of a kind and the last two cards form a pair. Four of a kind is when you have four cards of the same rank. Straight flush is when you have a straight and all the cards are of the same suit. The highest possible hand in Texas Hold’Em is a royal flush, that means you have the highest straight available, 10, J, Q, K, A, all of the same suit.

In Texas Hold’Em a hand begins with two cards being dealt to every player, which are known as pocket cards and are only seen by the player who receives them. Other players may be able to use their intuition to get an idea about the pocket cards of other player by observing their betting patterns and behavior throughout the game. Every player has unconscious gestures that give them up to other players if they have high cards or low cards, even professionals that have been playing this game for a long time.

After the players receive their pocket cards the dealer turns others cards face up on the table. First, three cards are dealt by the dealer that are called the flop, then a fourth card called turn and a fifth and last card called the river. After each round of dealing cards there is a round of betting. Players that believe they have the best hand can go until the final round and try to win the pot and the others can quit in each round of betting. There can be also players who don’t have anything, but try to force others to quit by intimidating them with placing a bet consistent of a large amount of money. This makes other players think that he has a very good hand, maybe better than theirs and stop betting. This is called a “bluff” and it is not uncommon in poker games. Situations may occur when a successful bluffer may end up winning more money than the ones who play for high cards.

You shouldn’t think that you are ready to face world champions if you know the combinations of cards in poker. There is more to poker than that. Free online poker is the best way for a novice to start playing poker and observe the patterns that other players use, because it doesn’t involve real money. Free online poker is also a way to sharpen those skills that you develop. You shouldn’t expect to win something of major substance from playing free online poker, but it is a way to become a very skilled poker player and move on to real money games.

There are also disadvantages to playing free poker online. The way you can spot a bluffer from playing free poker online is by observing the way other players bet or the time it takes for them to act when it is their turn, but there are other signs that give out a player. These signs are called “tells” and can be observed only when you play poker face to face, and not when playing free poker online. There are a lot of sites where you can play free online poker. If you want to become a free poker player be sure to visit hansapoker.com.

Poker Bluffing - a Novice Guide to Winning

A well-timed bluff is the mark of the successful poker player, but most novices do not know how to do it correctly.

Bluffing is one of the most important skills you can learn when you play poker and adds that touch of excitement that makes poker famous, but you need to know when to do it correctly and thats what this article is all about.

Whenever you see poker in films the players always seem to bluff and win big and this makes many novice players think they can win by bluffing all the time and they cant

Poker bluffing is a skill and should be used sparingly.

If everyone at the table can “read” you, you will never win at all as your bluffing is obvious and you will be hit.

When do you bluff then?

Poker bluffing is an art not a science and you need to read the other players and the chances of success your bluff could bring.

A pro also will know if a bluff is profitable by calculating the odds and the pot size and will also calculate the possibility of his opponent will folding.

Factors you need to consider when bluffing in poker are:

1. Knowing your opponents playing style

2. How the others “see” you and your style

3. The pot size

1. Knowing your opponent:

You have to know your opponent and their style of play.

You can bluff a strong player and he may fold, but a weak player can call you at anytime and ruin your bluff.

You need to calculate how succesful your bluffing is likley to be in relation to how your opponent plays to caculate the odds of success.

2. How the others see you:

Determine your overall image. How do others see you?

If you are planning to bluff, appear serious. It has a better chance of success. You may have been shown to be bluffing recently, and you can also use this to your advantage.

The other players will be thinking you are blufffing when you are not - Bluffing is all about wrong footing your opponents so always keep this in mind.

How you “read” the other players:

Of all the skills you need for poker, and especially bluffing, you must know how to “read” the other players, and also the flow of the game.

It will not be easy, but without it you will not know when and how much to bluff. It takes practice and skill, but once learned, you will find yourself winning..

3. Pot Size:

The pot size is also crucial in bluffing.

You must remember that if the pot is large, the others will call it more often as the odds are better. Where you are sitting (your “position”):

When bluffing also keep these points in mind as general rules to abide by:

1. Bluff tight tables only

Bluffs have a far better chance of success when playing tight tables. On loose tables unless all the “loose players” have already folded and are out of the game, chances are lower.

2. Bluff high limit tables only

In low limit games, there’s really no advantage in bluffing at all and you get called so frequently, your chances of success make it not worth it.

High limits, and of course no limit games, are when bluffing becomes very effective when a player knows how to bluff correctly.

3. Bluff from late position only

If everyone is checking, calling or folding in front of you before you play, it’s a good time to go for the pot. It’s not a good idea to bluff from an early position, as you have no idea what potential hands your opponents have.

Remember Poker bluffing is all about deception.

If you are predictable in your bluffing you will lose and if you don’t study your opponent and the pot size and know whether it’s worth bluffing you will lose again.

However if you can bluff sparingly and when the odds are in your favor you can win and win big pots and it is very satisfying!

Practice makes perfect

To become good at poker bluffing is not something you can learn overnight it takes a lot of practice.

You will find in time you can use it to your advantage and it is an essential tool for any player to master who takes their poker seriously.
