Poker Stars Tips
Poker Stars opened for play money beta testing September 12th 2001 and began offering real money games in December 2001. PokerStars is the largest online poker room in the world, with massive action at all stakes and skill levels. It’s the place to go for tournaments, with the world’s largest guarantees, an impressive 24/7 schedule and excellent software. PokerStars also sponsors some of the world’s most famous poker players, including Daniel Negreanu and WSOP Main Event champs Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem and Greg Raymer, who you can find at the tables to play or chat with.
The software has absolutely top of the line functionality, and the graphics are well-tried. Obviously, with so many players and games, you’ll find any kind of opposition at Poker Stars, from true beginners to really seasoned professionals.
Pay outs are paid very promptly usually within 24 hours and like most large online poker sites Poker Stars accept all the major forms of payments and withdraws. Unfortunately Poker Stars does not give any player bonus which does help to keep the fish away and the obvious bonus hunters. But does supply us with a unique (FPP) Frequent player points program. These are automatically accumiuated and are redeemable for cash tournament entries or are able to be used within the FPP store in exchange for cool Poker Stars goods such as hats, caps, jackets and poker chip sets.
Promotions and Bonus Information
Poker Stars spreads large numbers of well-filled satellites to most of the big tournaments. Most of all, of course, you’ll always find plenty of satellites to the WSOP. Several years in a row, Poker Stars has “delivered” around a third of all entrants in the WSOP Main Event. This is truly the home of online poker tournaments. There are a lot of freerolls at Poker Stars, but rarely with any significant value. They are very good exercise, though.
Poker Traffic
Despite Americans being welcome, quite many players at the site are based in Europe, and there is good poker action at European evening time. Peak hours typically occur around 2 PM, PT. At peak hours, the number of real money players in ring games often crosses the 20,000 mark (Feb, 2008).
Tournaments
There’s a large number of scheduled tournaments in the package, too. This of course includes WPT-PCA qualifiers, European Poker Tour qualifiers, Aussie Millions qualifiers and most notably, World Series of Poker. Poker Stars sent 1,200 tournament winners to WSOP in 2005. The only downside is the softness of the competition, which can be quite tough at times.
Software
Online Poker software. Once you click on a table name you can see the names of the players at the table, where they are from and how many chips they have.
For those that like to play at multiple tables you will be pleased to hear that the tables can be resized so you can view more than one at the same time and the software will automatically switch you the table that requires action. That’s of course unless you don’t want to in which case you can deselect it in the options menu.
